About
Hola, I am Pilar — your doula in Paris
Woman, mother and doula specialised in hypnosis, yoga and maternal well-being care. Since 2017, I have honoured a mission written into my own name: Pilar Izquierdo — “left pillar”, the feminine side. A pillar cannot exist on its own; I wish to be one for each family I have the chance to support.
My story
I was born in Colombia in the 80s, the youngest of four daughters of an advertising-artist father and an artist-from-life mother. At seventeen, a first experience of life in the USA changed everything: I met inspiring people and, above all, I met myself. Stepping off the plane home, I remember thinking: “next destination, France”.
In 2005 a one-way ticket brought me to Montpellier, then Paris, where I built a marketing career for almost fifteen years. Along the way — thanks to the seeds sown by my sisters, my birth fairies — I encountered yoga, meditation and Reiki. In 2013, in search of meaning, I left the corporate world for a world tour with my partner; I came back knowing my life would change.
It was the pregnancy and birth of my son, Aël Luciano, that made it happen. I savoured every moment — and yet I felt that my wishes were not fully respected, and how hard it is to feel truly supported and informed. The postnatal period was difficult, far from my family, before I had discovered doulas.
It became obvious: every woman, every baby, every family deserves better support through these vulnerable, magical and powerful moments. The tools that fascinate me — yoga, hypnosis, rituals — help greatly. But what helps most is being there: supporting, listening, respecting and caring.

A clear framework
What a doula does — and does not do
Doula support is strictly non-medical and respects the professions regulated by the public health code, in particular midwives and doctors. It always complements the medical follow-up of your choice.
As your doula, I…
- Support you, listen to you, and harmonise with your choices
- Offer moral, emotional and physical support
- Ask questions that help you find your own answers
- Share relevant, evidence-based information for informed choices
- Offer practices that activate your own resources
- Share non-medical tools and care for each stage — alongside the medical team of your choice
I do not…
- Make decisions for you
- Perform medical procedures — no monitoring, blood pressure or examinations
- Make diagnoses or prescriptions
- Replace the opinion of your medical team, or speak to them on your behalf (except at your request and with your agreement)
- Advise on when to go to the maternity ward — your midwife or doctor guides you there
- Substitute for the recommended medical monitoring of pregnancy or birth
